What approach to creating a website will we need for your website?
A web developer has a choice of tools to use to create your unique website.
Below are a some examples of websites developed using different approaches.
Static Websites (HTML5/CSS3)

This link to
Ideal Wines is an example of a static web site designed to look like a WordPress site.
What is not available in this implementation is an opportunity to buy merchandise. To sell merchandise we would use a Content Management System like the WordPress example below.
Some clients just want to display their art work.
My Corner Studio is an example of
a straight forward approach of using HTML5/CSS3. If the artist want's to expand into selling products or services a Content Management System would be used like the one below.
Content Management Systems (CMS)

I have been working with a client,
Idealist Wines, where
there is an evolution to selling merchandise online.
This
WordPress website is a prototype site being used to test e-commerce before making changes to the "live" site.
This
Joomla site duplicates the "My Corner Studio" static site.
The artist is not ready to sell anything right now but we are getting ready for when it happens.
Dreamweaver
Dreamweaver is a program that can help develop HTML5/CSS3 websites more quickly.
This is for a future restaurant when fine dining will be available. Photographs were taken by Jennifer Lyon.
Move the cursor over the menu items and the smaller images in the Photo area to get a better view of what will be available to eat.
The fully developed site will be completed when the restaurant is ready to take reservations.
Users of Internet Explorer (IE) will not be able to see the video of the vineyard.
Server side programming
PHP and a MySQL database are used in this simulated bicycle rental store.
Log in with the default user or create your own account. A MySQL database on the server will store your login information.
You can also switch between English and Spanish at the bottom of the page. "Localization" is used to match the language of the end user.
This is example of needing to know the purpose and target audience of the users of the website.
Photography
Photoshop is a fun and powerful tool to have in your website development toolkit.
To set the right mood or impression, a slight modification to a photograph may be required.
Web development has brought me back to using a camera. I find that I like to take pictures of
people in natural surroundings.
And don't forget to look around and remember the
places you have been.
